In my opinion I don’t see a problem with straight people playing gay characters, my issue is that gay people aren’t given much spotlight in the acting industry. You would assume a gay person would be better qualified to play the role of a gay character than an equally skilled straight person, yet so many roles go to straight actors disproportionately. The issue is directors rarely choose to give roles to rising talent meaning we have the same popular straight actors getting every single role.

It’s crazy that this happens to a lot of gay actors cause back in the 1970’s or 80’s there was a thing called a “Lavender Marriage” where gay actors were forced into straight relationships for the viewers and. audience to see and if they didn’t want to, they were cut.
