From my understanding of the video and song, The little girl parents left her at a young age so she didn't have the nurture, care and love that she needed. She has this yearning to feel loved, so she becomes VERY promiscuous to try to find it in men, but they only wanted her for her body and leave her. She knows there is something missing in her but she can't doesn't know what it is , so she falls further and further into her dark path of lovers and she's finally had enough and took a leap of faith for Jesus and it freed her from her sorrow.

I was looking through some comments and saw that people thought she committed suicide. This album has a TON of symbolism in it. It wasn't suicide. She didn't even die. She was swimming. The jump represents leaving captivity (the ship) and swimming in the water represents washing away her past mistakes. Like a new start, a clean slate. It's not suicide. A lot of this is actually symbolism.

A flurry of vocal emotions, backed up by Christians who love what they do and know who they're doing it for is just unbearable. This song broke my heart. Just thinking about my life without God is unfathomable. He is so good to his people, he loves us no matter what we do or where we go, or how many times we reject him. He's always there. I thank flyleaf for reminding us about how good our God is and how without him, there truly would be something missing in our lives. Thank you Flyleaf.

I'll always have a love for flyleaf - I started listening to their music a while before I became a committed Christian. I always felt an inexplicable peace whenever I listened to their music. Then it was months after I started going to church that I realised they were kingdom people too. I love that they're a metal/hard rock band that's not afraid to proclaim their love for Jesus :-)

I saw the queen
Swam out below her star on sea beneath
Though I lifted up my hands to her
She never lifted me
Oh, something's missing in me
I felt it deep within me
As lovers left me to bleed alone
Found something sweet
On the island with the daughters of eve
But through thick and thin they've gone away
And only left their grief
Oh, something's missing in me
I felt it deep within me
As lovers left me to bleed alone
Something's missing in me
I felt it deep within me
As lovers left me to bleed alone
Something's missing in me
Something's missing in me
Down here, love wasn't meant to be
It wasn't meant to be for me
Down here, love wasn't meant to be
It wasn't meant to be for me
(all is vanity, underneath the sun, all is vanity)
Oh, something's missing in me
I felt it deep within me
As lovers left me to bleed alone
Something's missing in me
I felt it deep within me
As lovers left me to bleed alone
Something's missing in me

This song holds near and dear to my heart because when I was going through a tough time it felt like a part of me was missing. I had my friends and a Christian bible that a friend let me borrow.
Then when I understood that everything was going to be alright I felt freed from my pain and felt born again.

According to Lacey in her documentaries for her book "The Reason", one of the reasons she left was due to the fact she got married and had a son, and made the hard decision of stepping down from Flyleaf to devote her life to her family. Also, the last tour the band had with her, their sound manager passed away. I love Flyleaf and always will, and Lacey was truly talented and her passion for God and music will always resonate within Flyleaf.
