For those unfamiliar: This is Nyango Star にゃんごすたー, the feline yuruchara (publicity mascot) of Kuroishi city which is near the tip of Honshu island. Created in 2015 to promote their struggling apple commerce. Debuted on YT in 2015 covering the Ventures's Yozora no Hoshi 夜空の星. Went viral after X JAPAN leader Yoshiki was asked to watch his impressive drum cover of the band's song Kurenai 紅. (Search in Japanese for those video clips, & also Vice News's 2019 video profile in English.) Signed with an agency after 2016 for solo promotions, including TV commercials. Pre-pandemic, he also gigged as part of yuruchara metal band CHARAMEL キャラメル with vocalist Funassyi ふなっしー (pear fairy yuruchara of Funabashi city), guitarist Akkuma アックマ (grizzly yuruchara from Sapparo with twin sister Koakkuma) & bassist Kapal カパル (water imp yuruchara of Shiki city). They have their own YT channel.

Only in Japan, ya'll! Yuru-kyara (mascot culture) is very big there. EVERYTHING has a mascot lol. This particular mascot is known as "Nyango Star" the heavy metal cat. The name is a riff on Ringo Starr from the Beatles fame. This particular mascot's job is saving a small apple farm in Kuroishi City, Japan from shutting down.
