My name is Bre. I took two years of small engine repair at the local college. When I left school, I fell into a wonderful job at a local small engine shop where I worked the counter for a couple years. In 2010 my husband and I opened up our own small engine shop in central Arkansas where I am able to work alongside my family and best friends. We see over 2,000 pieces of small engine equipment every year, and answer 1,000's of small engine questions. We specialize in brands such as Briggs and Stratton, Kohler, Echo and Shindaiwa, but work everyday on MANY other brands like Stihl, Husqvarna, Honda, Craftsman, Remington, Red Max, Troy Bilt, Scag, Bad Boy, Hustler, World Lawn, Poulan, Mantis, Etc.. Hopefully, my experience I share, will save you Time, Money and Frustration in the future!

Echo needs to be giving you some free stuff for doing their QC job for them.

A little heat shrink tubing where those wires connect to each other won't hurt either

You're a valuable representative for Echo products, and hopefully, they recognize their honest representatives. Each product has a minor issue that repair shops are their first line of defective recognized issues. If you were in my hometown! I'd have you as my number one shop!

It's not biting the hand that feeds! It's called feedback! If the manufacturer doesn't get told of issues they're just gonna keep on building machines that fail.

You do a great job helping people and explaining how to fix equipment.

You legit should be on the Echo corporate payroll. You keep investigating until you find the real causes of problems. Repair techs here just either say they can't fix it or that it's fixed when it's not. lol. As a dealer, I hope you have an Echo rep you can let know the problems with their machines.

As a former Echo dealer, I found Echo to be the most responsive to dealer service issues. At dealer tech updates, they'd always ask "what have you seen?" An Echo rep would write down problem areas on their equipment the techs mentioned. They would address most of these issues quickly. A great company to deal with, imo.

Can you explain how a break or discontinuity in the coil kill can kill the engine. Usually the kill switch grounds the coil primary circuit to kill the ignition. A discontinuity seems like it would make the machine continue to run even if the switch were activated. Maybe the kill line is grounding where it is pinchd in that little slot? Thanks for showing this!

Nice repair.. I would add some heat shield or a layer of shrink tubing to those wires to add another layer of protection and prevent this from happening again.

Seriously, Echo needs hire you as a consultant when developing new models. Combining people like yourself in the trades with a wealth of knowledge alongside engineers who design these products would be a win-win situation.

Thanks! You keep on doing you. I appreciate the fact that if it is a problem you'll fix it and show us what the issue is regardless of the toes that may get stepped on. I had NO idea the warranty was 5 years for home owners! That's Bossin (is that even a word?)...LoLz

Our shop has sold over 200 8010s and 9010s and 910 Shindiawa's only real problem that we have seen with them is fuel filter pluging issues, mostly in commercial use. Have not seen any kill wire issues yet, but will keep it in mind. Commercial opperators just carry a fuel filter or two in truck and change it out when unit gets low on power or won't rev up. A few broken main frames from one gulf coarse that keeps droping them off carts is the only other issue we have seen with them.

I live on a large lot with a lot of trees, mainly pine and oak, and have used both my Husqvarna 150BT and Husqvarna 580BTS leaf blowers a lot. The only thing I've ever had happened to them was a broken cut-off switch wire on the 150BT. I've been extremely pleased with both of them. I know the STIHL and the Echo blowers are the go to for the professionals, but the Husqvarnas have served me well.

While at it, I'd slip those wires into heat shrink tubing so as to give them additional chafing protection. Big virtual hug to you Bre !

Good catch, Echo makes good equipment and not a terrible fix once you figure out what the issue is. Cheers.

As always great. Finding random things anywhere is sometimes a mystery worth investing. THANKS Todays random item was a "new nut" in the parking lot of the hardware store. Yes, found owner.
