I recently came across an excerpt from a debate by Christopher Hitchens about Islam. Simultaneously, we are supposed to believe that we are the creature most contemptible, most evil, and most worthy of destruction in God's eye, and yet we are the center of the universe. the only thing God truly cares about, the raison d'ĆŖtre that God made creation. Our entire self image is superlatives stacked on the ends of the spectrum with nothing in between.

For many, it has shown to be much more effective when proselytizing, not to teach about the "love and kindness" of Jesus and God, but rather to tell people about the threat of Hell- "Eternal Conscious Torment" if they choose not to believe.
The originators of the Christian narrative weren't stupid when they came up with this tactic.

Well I absolutely refuse to have children (but to be honest, no one wants me anyways lol) because even if thereās a 1 in trillion chance that hell is real and theyāre going to because they donāt believe in something so confusing and hidden, then I love a living being more then that to risk eternal torture on them.

Our ancestors shared with us, using story and metaphors, that humanity chose to separate from the source of their Creation, God. This story was passed along in the oral tradition for thousands of years BEFORE the Bible.
This formed the doctrine of Original Sin. Separation from God. Also the meaning of āsinā.
The clear warning is that human individuals are in a state of transition in this reality. That our choices matter. Like a baby in the womb. If we refuse to develop spiritually there will be consequences at our death/birth.
Imagine if someone told an unborn baby that they didnāt need to worry about developing. That they had everything they need in the womb. That their birth was actually death. What a horrible scene it would be when it was time to be born.
Our ancestors are trying to tell us WE must develop spiritually in order to have a proper birth. That our death is a transition to something extraordinary, but it requires us to develop. Jesus Christ also warned us.
Is it so crazy to think that we may have work to do here spiritually before our death/transition? If we donāt do this work, we will face real metaphysical consequences? Is this cruel to warn people of this? Is it cruel not to?

Frightening people into salvation is akin to forcing someone to love you. Neither is really chosen so neither has much chance of lasting.
