It is bad doctrine and a flat-out lie in the church that says that there is no need for repentance to the believer. Jesus commands the apostle John to write to seven churches and rebukes, five of them saying to repent before things would happen. Jesus gave five of those churches ultimatums or else. One of them, he said that he would fight against them with the sword of his mouth. (Revelations 2:16)

So, repentance means a change of mind and a change of direction. It means to do Differently based on the direction that God is commanding to go. If God says you are going in the wrong direction. He expects you willingly to turn Towards him for direction.
A heart of repentance is willing and ready and available no matter the cost. That heart understands that the opposite direction of where God wants you to go is destruction. But the direction that God directs is life and abundance of it.
