The Gordons had a huge conflict with the nearby Forbes clan and had for generations. Auchindoun Castle was owned by Sir Adam Gordon. Adam was Catholic and a staunch supporter of Mary Queen of Scots. The Forbes of Towie had become Protestant and supported the infant James who had become king after his mother had been forced to abdicate the throne. A civil war broke out in Scotland between Those who were ruling Scotland in the name of Mary's baby son James against those who still supported Mary as Queen. The Marian war, as it became known, that coupled religion and politics had made the Gordon's and the Forbes even greater enemies. In November of 1571 Adam Gordon set fire to Lord John Forbes of Towie's home ending the life of his wife and 27 other men, women and children.
Auchindoun castle was burned in retaliation for this event. The massacre instigated by Adam Gordon became known as one of the Adam Gordon became known as one of the most horrific and atrocious deeds to ever happen in the Aberdeenshire area.

Evelyn Edwards is a successful American actress history presenter, and photographer. She has appeared on such shows as National Geographic’s Hydrogen vs. Hindenburg, Bosch, Criminal Minds, Castle, The Mentalist, Parenthood, The Thundermans, The Kicks, Marry Me, Outsourced, the Academy Award winning film Her, the Ridley Scott Associates film Loom, and most recently Ghostbusters.
Evelyn began her career in opera. She has performed with some of the opera industry’s leading conductors and singers including: Placido Domingo, Valery Gergiev, Kent Nagano, Eva Marton, Vladimir Chernov, Goesta Winburg, and others.
She has had the privilege of working with such famed directors as Oscar winner Maximilian Schell, Julie Taymor, Gian-Carlo Del Monaco, and Lotfi Mansuri during her tenure with Los Angeles Opera. Ms. Edwards made her professional singing debut at the age of 13, operatic debut at 19, and national television commercial debut at six months.
She holds a Bachelors and Masters degree from UCLA and a PSD from Mannes College of Music. She and her husband Chris love exploring the world and sharing their passion and love for history, castles and photography together.
