As someone with a lab, they get tumors and cancer so easily and so often. My dog has about 3 tumors and hes around 8-10 years old. He got them when we was probably 6 or so. So if thats a huge issue, then dont get a lab. They also weere bred for hunting small animals, ducks specifically, so they can and will probably bite your kids if they fuck with em.

When I was younger, before I moved to a farm, I had a Maltese Shi tzu named chompers, and later after he passed another Maltese shi tzu named Oakley, they were both the greatest dogs and I totally recommend them for families, of course after me and my parents moved to the farm we had 3 cattle dogs and a Great Dane named Friesan.

A show line Lab unless you're a really active family. Our Hunting line Lab was waaaaay too much for us, and he was our first large dog breed. We got a Lab because everyone said they were the best breeds for families, and we had no idea that there is an energy difference between the show line Labs and hunting line Labs. Beautiful dog, sweetest and most affectionate dog, but boundless energy.

With the border collie. I’d say it entirely depends on the line and the breeder. There’s working lines, show lines and family lines. I grew up with two border collies - they were both of the family line. Plus the breeder selected the dog for us and made sure the dog would fit our family. We didn’t get to choose the dog and if there wasn’t one that would fit our family, we’d have to wait to the next litter.

I have now had my lab now for almost a year. I got her at 10 weeks... She has aged me but after a year omg this dog absolutely loves the kids and I never taught her that... I am disabled and I got her not only as my bestie but as a service dog. I dont have little kids. Mine are all grown... But the neighborhood kids love coming over to throw her ball and I get the opportunity to hang out with them all. Now.... Just an fyi.... I didnt realize there are two different breedings of labs... a show/family dog and the sporting... I thought I did all ny home work on the breed but the breeder also didnt quite disclose she was a sporting lab. She needs exceptional exercise and brain stimulation or she gets destructive.... She is with me 24/7 and is always outside or working...she is now 1. I cant thank you enough for all your training videos... Willow has definitely put some serious grey hair on my head but she is turning out to be a fantastic dog... And I have dogs my whole life... And was a horse trainer and work with livestock.... The lab breed has definitely suprised me. ❤

I love the look the dog gave when he said Labrador... "Shut up dad. I know you're talking about me"
