Rubber seals are the best form of reliable seal. You want to risk your biulding and investment to a seal that relise on the integrity of the mechanical compression just to loose the compression if it shifts? F-that.
Rubber doesn't settle and has a vibration dampening effect, just make sure you binstall the Rubber in this location. Not under the sink or tub as this is after the critical area
If you install a Rubber seal under the sink you will have to seal two locations the flange area and threads .
In case of a kitchen sink or tub. You only need a seal in the bowl area as depicted in his video where he us installing this crap tastic putty

I've done this in a pinch but there's a real risk of breaking the cross section in the strainer.

By spinning that you spun most of the putty out. good job you’ll be back in eight months for a leak again

Make sure you use stainless putty or what they recommend or it will stain top or faucet finish.
