He never supported Corbyn he hated him with a passion. Corbyn being voted as leader of the party was never in their script, young people were supposed to be nihilsts or apathetic at best. I'm gonna disagree on the use of nuclear weapons; I'd be far more concerned about a potential PM who would not be willing to make it clear that we have these weapons, and if the event were to arise, we will use them.
He's not saying "If I was PM, we'd use them next week." - he's just understanding of the fact that the world isn't idealistic, it's realistic, and that includes having the willingness to draw your sword in response to a sword being drawn upon you.
