Dad did perfect here! If he'd cave and order for her when she said she couldn't she'd just learn that that's the work around.

Our 7 year old orders her own food at restaurants. We started teaching her when she was 5. Good job dad

"Go hungry" please, fast food is not a requirement to live. I understand the anxiety, and that's a great exercise to try and work through it, I agree with him.

He did what Dads do. One day, he won’t be there anymore to help her. He isn’t forcing her to be mean, he is trying to prepare her for being on her own. If she cannot do this without him there to help, what then? Well, she wouldn’t eat, would she? And she, having to deal with these repercussions, she still has her parents around to help her cope with over stimulation, and the anxiety that will follow a failed solo attempt at such a task.
It’s unfortunate and I hope her the best, coming from a father who suffers from social anxiety himself. But her Dad is doing what Dads are meant to do. Mom coddles and gives care, teaching compassion and love. Dad is suppose to prepare his children for the day he and their Mom CANT be there for them. It is a healthy form of tough love and while it may seem cold and heartless of him. I promise you, it hurt him deeply and went against his own nature as a father to provide to do this.

He stuck to the therapist instruction and you know that missing out will help her next time.

what he needs to know is that it it helps more to work at subway or mod pizza, a place with a food assembly line in front of customers and next to coworkers. over time it becomes easier to talk to people who you don’t know, over time you just become more social. but it does take time, i kept with it for 8 years, and i am almost as social as my coworkers. i still struggle looking at people when talking.

Wait, you know if you go through the drive through you still don’t have to eat it in the car? Like you can keep that in the bag til you get home… why did she have to go inside?

There is food at home...she will not starve. If she was hungry enough she would have ordered food.

As long as she gets food who cares, she does need to work on it, but if she goes hungry that day she is going to have a bigger mental hangup.

I’m someone who has anxiety. When younger it was extreme. But I agree with the dad. So would the therapist probably. There are some things you HAVE to be able to do. Getting food. Getting help when you need it. Those are just two examples. The sooner his daughter accepts that the sooner she will be able to progress. You can live life with your anxiety in check. But when it’s not. You still have to live life even if it’s just the basic stuff

As someone with social anxiety, it can just be impossible to get words out. Sometimes you end up just standing there, trying to speak but you just can’t

It should also be her making the conscious decision to go out of her comfort zone and stay out of it. People don’t realise getting out of the comfort zone is the easy part, staying out of it is when it can become difficult
