I learned to shoot when I was in cadets at 12 on the Enfield, Im Canadian. every winter & fall we would do trips to one base or another and have our range days. In the fall or spring it wasn't too bad. hands didn't get too cold. The winter trips though you had to be careful since Enfield's trigger guard wasn't big enough to allow gloves you wore the old mitts with the slits for you to stick your fingers out. it gets cold fast. The M1 winter trigger pure genius.

This isnโt true. The hole in the milled trigger guard has nothing to do with the winter trigger, and these winter triggers werenโt adopted until nearly a decade AFTER these trigger guards with the holes were adopted. In fact, the newer stamped trigger guards with milled hooks had already been standard on Garands for years before this winter trigger was in use, and the winter triggers were issued along with an adapter that allows them to be used just as easily with the stamped trigger guards. The actual purpose of that hole was just to allow for something like a screwdriver to be inserted through the trigger guard to give the user a better grip when pulling on the trigger guard to disassemble the rifle (the milled guards could be very stiff at times compared to the stamped guards) . I have a full video about the history of those M1 Garand winter triggers on my page.

Growing up one of my dads friends was a machinist that had lost his right index and middle finger in a machining accident in his early 20s. He used that exact winter trigger to shoot with his ring finger. Allowed him to have a more natural grip on the gun compared to if he tried to use the standard trigger. I had assumed he had modified his M1 for the longest time to suit his disability but when I asked him how he made it one time he said he didn't and it came with the gun. Pretty cool that it also can help differently abled people. I bet they never thought that would be the case in making it!

The fact you fired it until empty to allow for the iconic ping, takes this video to the next level. Thanks.
