Our presidents are practically campaigning for their 2nd terms the moment they get into office 😂

You're crazy if you think the campaigns are only that long. They never stop campaigning. They just change from campaigning to us to campaigning to corporations and countries.

Elections in the US are just like political superbowl.

It is no longer about the issues or policies, its just posturing with gratuitous entertainment like shows and rallies.

The Canadian starting with “sorry” was a fine detail!

The US has such a long campaign because of its archaic way of conducting primaries: going state by state, taking a good chunk of the first half of the year when doing so. And even after all the results are in, the candidates still have to be nominated by delegates in their party's convention.
If the primaries were all held at the same date, and the winner was declared immediately with no nominating convention, then the campaign time would be much shorter.

In France the campaign officially starts a few weeks before election, but in reality the candidates start campaigning months in advance. What's different during the official campaign time is that media have an obligation to give equal coverage to all candidates.

The longer the campaign, the more the campaign advisors can get paid!

Brazilian here. We are almost as populous and large as the US and we usually have less than two months for campaign.

In Mexico, presidential campaigns start 90 days before election day, with an additional 60-day "pre-campaign" season, and they have to stop three days prior to the election with a "Veda Electoral" it means that you can't air ads on TV and other media and the sale of alcohol is banned (except in touristic places, if you still want to drink alcohol, make sure to buy it before election day), Election day are always on Sundays.

See I always thought I was dumb for thinking it was way too long, and now I feel validated

Aside from the rightfully mentioned length of the campaigns, you had me with your accent delivery!

I’m so exhausted from our politics, it seems never-ending!!!! Terrible for people’s mental health and just so annoying.

In France, the 15 days are the time when media are legaly obligated to invite each candidate and give them an equal time to speach on TV/Radio. But the campaign begin earlier (it's still way shorter than the USA)

6 weeks exactly in Australia. The Prime Minister heads to the Governor with the intent, publishes the election date, dissolves parliament and it's on like Donkey Kong! And the tv also stays off of 6 weeks, while the rest of us debate the more important issues come election day- barbecue or tomato? Onion or no? See, election day is also known as Democracy Sausage day here- schools are usually the polling booths so they set up fundraising barbecues so you can eat while waiting to vote!
