My maternal uncle was a m36 driver & his TD was knocked out by a pk36 across the Leine River in march of 1945. He took a long time to recuperate .

I love this Great Nation because of Great People. Did his job and went home. We are lucky to have these folk. Don't forget about those who couldn't make it back.

Hear what this vet said? Rommel had the better tanks, yet Nazi Germany lost the war. Because the Nazis, though having better panzers like Tiger I/ll, produced less than 2000 of them. The Americans produced 50,000 Sherman tanks. The Soviets produced 50,000 T-34 tanks. In Italy, a German anti-tank gun commander commented after surrendering, that they ran out of anti-tank ammunition in fending off an American armored assault with Shermans, while the Americans did not run out of tanks. So, vastly superior German tank technology, in limited numbers, could not stem the sheer preponderance in numbers of Allied tanks. Fast forward to the 21st century, US mass production has precipitously declined, while the Chinese are drowning in manufacturing frenzy. With this lesson from WW2, if a US-China conflict occurs, who do you think will prevail on the battlefield, quality Abrams tanks, or overwhelming numbers of less quality Made-in-China tanks of a manufacturing juggernaut? The US must reclaim its position as a manufacturing behemoth, before it is too late to do so.

And they could drive with any kind of engine that the factory had at hand.

The M4 Sherman was a death trap. Because they used gas instead of diesel, one direct hit, and they blew up like a roman candle. In fact, the Germans had a nick name for the Sherman... Bronson burner! The German tanks (particularly the Panther & Tiger) had more armor and a more powerful gun (high velocity 75 & 88 mm), whereas our Shermans were poorly equipped with a low velocity 75 mm. We lost thousands of crews in one-on-one tank battles. The only reasons why we prevailed in the tank warfare was because we produced a lot more (over 50,000). We finally got our act together and started sending a more powerful tank (M26 Pershing), but by the time they reached the European theater, the war was practically over. 😞
