Ever wondered why there are ZERO sports cars/super cars that use a diesel engine? It is because diesel engines are pretty sh!t in the top end. Also, the petrol engine in the XUV700 works on the GDI technology, which makes the lower end stronger than normal while reducing the top end potential of the car. This is practical as the XUV700 is more of a city oriented car made to go light offroading sometimes. Also good point to mention is that petrol engines are much more refined than diesel engines. So, unless you are worried about the fuel price, it is more sensible to get a petrol engine than a diesel as the difference in torque for 95% of the customers will be insignificant, with the added bonus of refinement and added headroom in the RPM range.
Edit: The closest thing to a diesel sports car is the Audi S7, which is even slower than an M340i
