Generational Florida Resident here 👋🏼
I learned about the upside down pineapple thing earlier this year 😅
Was on a cruise out of Ft. Lauderdale and noticed A LOT of people had these pins on their shirt.
Me being naive and clueless, I said “Those pins are cool! I want one!” And they gave me one, then turned it upside down.
It wasn’t until dinner time when I wore it, I had a bunch of people come up to me telling me their cabin # 😅
My husband was mortified lmao

Specifically it's the upside down pineapple for swingers. A regular pineapple is the symbol for "hospitality" (basically hotels). Most people think the swinger connotation is because the original connotation was "welcome, please make yourself at home" and swingers do the same thing, just with a different style

The pineapple is a symbol for hospitality and welcome. The upside down one I believe is the one swingers use. The pineapple being used as a symbol of hospitality and welcome is extremely common in the south and dates back to the 1700s I believe. Maybe longer. Its been a whike since I researched it

The upside down pineapple is actually the sign for swingers. The regular pineapple is just the standard sign for hospitality. You see, what happened is that swingers would go to hotels to do swinger things and turn the pineapple (again, symbol of hospitality, that's actually found in many hotels) upside down, as a sign that they were open for play.
