Is this person a therapist? If so, what kind? Because this video is really confusing if they are. 1. Depending on the intrusive thought, this can be a good coping tool. For example, intrusive thoughts that can lead to dissociation or as an alternate to cutting yourself (while I argue substituting pain is not the best coping tool, I much prefer you give yourself a welt than an infection). 2. the red stop sign is fine IF YOU USE YOUR REPLACEMENT THOUGHTS. The stop sign is 1/2 the coping mechanisms tool. It is a coping tool pet of an effective, evidence based therapy: CBT. 3. I think this was arguing with your thoughts or challenging them? I’m confused what this means exactly but maybe challenging negative self-talk? Like look up neuroplasticity? Absolutely challenge negative thoughts and replace them with more positive thoughts - it literally rewires your brain. We have actual, physical proof this works… it’s super cool. 4. Avoidance is your FIRST coping tool always WHEN POSSIBLE. That coworker who gives you backhanded compliments that cause intrusive thoughts? Avoid them. 100%. - source: Actual therapist of over 10 years.

Therapy is not one size fits all. Different orientations may work better for different personalities, people with different disorders or disabilities, etc.
