The thin bar is so underrated. I have it at my new gym which also has the original thick one, and the thin one just feels so much better.

Smith machines are severely underrated for hypertrophy training. The key is not focusing on weight but on the stretch and the pump. You can do variations of, bench, squat, shoulder press, Romanian deadlift, and so on. Just look up the legend John Meadows on the smith machine.

Chris. Try that pec stretch with your arm making a right angle. Gets waaay deeper than straight arm which can push more on the shoulder

He’s right.. I never realized that was the OG cybex Smith, but when I used to train at my local rec center down in the city (all older equipment) they had that smith machine & it’s far superior.

Thin bar feels like im pressing thru a pen im holding, not stable at all and it burrows itself into my palms. Thicker bar feels better with the weight spread out through more surface area on my palm, way more stable. Its all personal preference tho. Hand size matters too

Only complaint is not having the ability to put on a camber bar for more stretch.
