Anyway, recently I learned some of the Sicilian language and then went to Sicily and tried to use it there and it was pretty hilarious. On the beautiful island of Sicily people speak Italian but also the related language of Sicilian, which has a bunch of sub-dialects, and so I tried learning the Palermitan dialect which is spoken in the city of Palermo, and then I went to Palermo to try it out on the locals and because most people here speak this language only with family and friends and not in public they were quite surprised to see me speaking. Furthermore I feel like the people who taught me this language were messing with me because I unintentionally ended up learning the slangiest, dirtiest version of this language I could, and so it sparked all kinds of interesting reactions.

I used to speak fluent Sicilian when my mother and my grandmother were alive. Now, not so much. The two languages of Sicilian and Italian are literally worlds apart!

I think we have a similar word for that in Dutch: "vreten" instead of "eten'.

We can use both. But "vreten" is only used in an informal conversation. It basically means a more aggressively form of eating. Or eating without manners. So it's more often only used to refer to animals eating.

I tried to speak Spanish to a regular I deliver pizzas to. Tried to say “que tengas una buena noche. But I think I said chingues instead of tenges bc he look at me confused then laughed and says it back but with tenges lmao. Pretty sure I said “f*ck your good night” or something to that extent lol.
