OP is 100% TA Iā€™m surprised the kid handled that so well, I a full grown adult probably would have had a break down if someone took the last of my food especially if it was food I was saving to eat last

You knowā€¦ Iā€™m an adult and I know damn well I would be upset if someone fed my food to their baby. And yes, I do still save the best food for last

Damn I didnā€™t even realise they said ā€œan autistic thingā€. Thatā€™s really annoying too. Most people, regardless of neurodivergence, do not like having their food taken

Op is TA, and as someone with autism, it's completely insulting to attribute a child being upset by disrespectful behavior to being an "autistic thing." It's in the same vein as attributing a woman's anger at a situation to her being on her period.

I would have loved to see OPs reaction to all the people on Reddit calling her the AH. Personally I donā€™t know anyone who is okay with someone just taking their food without their consent. I know it would tick me the hell off.

Definitely. You donā€™t act like a brat after stealing someoneā€™s food without asking either. Like you saw that she was upset after taking her food you should have said sorry to her. DTA

YTA totally.The fact you took it without asking. You then ignorantly assume something of one group from one person to to all of them. Shows immaturity. Who's the kid now?

What does she mean itā€™s ab autistic thing? Saving the nice part so you donā€™t finish a meal on a burnt chip is a pretty normal thing to do. I know a fair few people who taught their kids to eat that way to be like ā€œeat the veggies first then you finish the meal on something tastyā€ Also for anyone wondering reddit tore her a new one but she still doubled down in the comments I doubt she learnt anything sadly

Yup! Not acceptable! Unless someone specifically says theyā€™re finished their food, itā€™s rude to discard or share it!

Uhhh. No. Just no. I mean itā€™s one thing if you didnā€™t think of it and you apologized. Cuz yea. Some parents just assume a child is done with their food cuz most of the time, kids donā€™t finish their food. So I understand her side butā€¦APOLOGIZE! And think of it as ā€œI should go apologize to that kid now cuz I took their food without asking. And next time I will ask first before taking their food.ā€ Thatā€™s my opinion

Iā€™m a ā€œnormalā€ adult (as normal as someone with adhd, ptsd and anxiety and many serious health issues can be anyways) and I will save the last bite of my chicken or stake or whatever to eat after I finish everything else bc I wanna savor it lol I do this mainly because I have a lot of issues with my guts so I donā€™t eat very much so when I do eat and itā€™s something that Iā€™ve been wanting for a long time, a favorite food or itā€™s just really good I will save that last piece for last.

I might be able to understand if "she wasn't eating it" but had left to go play in another room or something, i.e., not go to the restroom while at a restaurant, but the disconnect from the irrelevant information is weird. Those "sizzling" pans come to the table really hot, even for an adult. You take extra precautions with kids to make sure they don't touch them. OP took a child's hand to the sizzling pan then asked if it is a little kid thing to get burned by them. Putting anyone's hand on the pan makes you the AH, you just making it worse on yourself to specify they it was a little kid. (To kinda allegory-ize it)

Op is definitely the ahole. Yes, I'm neurodivergent as well.. i hate when people touch or eat my food even from a young age. I'd get upset when my siblings, mom or friends ate my food, especially if i went to use the bathroom and came back to see my food gone, and i would just end up shutting down and not talking to anyone for hours, they usually said sorry when they realized i was very upset and wouldn't talk to them, it's one of my coping things and I still do this. It's easier to cope and think things through for me instead of just having a meltdown. Also, i can't really talk coherently when upset.

@naturallytajy973

Definitely the asshole, I am a grown adult and i would be effing livid if someone sticking they hands in my food without asking there will be issues so I can imagine how that young girl felt. Thatā€™s not right, and then you try and give it back? Ya nasty fingers were all over it
