Did God allow slavery to exist in the Old Testament? Yes. Did he allow it because it was morally just? No. You need to understand the context of the world and the people God was revealing himself to. Think about it this way, there’s a group of people who have only ever known life as slaves, in a world where slavery was an integral part of the building of early civilizations, and the general rule was “Do whatever you want to whoever you want if you conquer them”. But when God revealed himself he gave them a rule book. Really think about that, God told them “hey there’s actually gonna be quite a few limitations to this slavery thing from now on”. That doesn’t mean God condoned it because it was morally just, but because he knew there had to be a starting point for his people to build off and help realize for themselves what is truly right and truly wrong. People have this misconception that the Mosaic Law was given to the Jewish people to act as a perfect moral code, it wasn’t. It was given to act as a starting point and as a guide until Jesus came to earth

Slavery was not only not wrong in those days, it was the norm. Israelites, and later Jews, had slaves and there were biblical guidelines on how to treat them. Read Ex 20:10, Job 31:13-15, Deut 24:14-15, Lev 22:11, Mal 3:5, Lev 19:20-22, Ex 21:20-21, 26-32, also cf. Eph 5:9 This Cliffe fella' is full of turtle lard.

People sure do love listening to Cliffe lie.
The Bible condones and promotes chattel slavery.
Chattel slavery is defined as "the enslaving and owning of human beings and their offspring as property, able to be bought, sold, and forced to work. Another definition is: "The condition in which one person is owned as property by another and is under the owner's control, especially in involuntary servitude."
Leviticus 25 explicitly describes and condones chattel slavery.
Jesus never condemned slavery. The New Testament continues to condone it.
"44 Both thy bondmen, and thy bondmaids, which thou shalt have, shall be of the heathen that are round about you; of them shall ye buy bondmen and bondmaids.
45 Moreover of the children of the strangers that do sojourn among you, of them shall ye buy, and of their families that are with you, which they begat in your land: and they shall be your possession.
46 And ye shall take them as an inheritance for your children after you, to inherit them for a possession; they shall be your bondmen for ever: but over your brethren the children of Israel, ye shall not rule one over another with rigour."

They have certainly disbelieved who say, "Allah is the Messiah, the son of Mary" while the Messiah has said, "O Children of Israel, worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord." Indeed, he who associates others with Allah Allah has forbidden him Paradise, and his refuge is the Fire. And there are not for the wrongdoers any helpers - (Quran 5:72).
And when Allah will say, "O Jesus, Son of Mary, did you say to the people, 'Take me and my mother as deities besides Allah?" He will say, "Exalted are You! It was not for me to say that to which I have no right. If I had said it, You would have known it. You know what is within myself, and I do not know what is within Yourself. Indeed, it is You who is Knower of the unseen. I said not to them except what You commanded me to worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord. And I was a witness over them as long as I was among them; but when You took me up, You were the Observer over them, and You are, over all things, Witness. If You should punish them - indeed they are Your servants; but if You forgive them - indeed it is You who is the Exalted in Might, the Wise." Allah will say, "This is the Day when the truthful will benefit from their truthfulness." For them are gardens beneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide forever, Allah being pleased with them, and they with Him. That is the great attainment. To Allah belongs the kingdom of the heavens and the earth and of whatever lies therein, and He is powerful over everything - (Quran 5: 116-120).

There is so much misunderstanding on this subject, and Cliff does more than his part in spreading it. I don't know why he's so popular when it comes to Biblical slavery. Does the OT condone slavery? Yes, I mean by definition it does. "Why" is the more interesting question. Denying what the Bible clearly says is not helpful.

Reading the Bible seriously reveals slavery is wrong?
If so, then Paul and all the Apostles were wrong for being enslaved to God through Lord Jesus. Paul throughout his letters referred to being a bond servant or being enslaved to him in chains or being his prisoner (Philemon 1:9).
If slavery is wrong, then my servitude to God is wrong.
