It may seem like a ticky tack complaint but it's all about telegraphing to the Quarterback that you're going to be open before the ball is thrown. AJ Barner needs his outside hand, the hand going in the direction of the route, to be exposed for the QB to see and anticipate your cut
If a TE keeps his hands inside there is no guarantee that he will get both hands free to make a play on the ball without that 5 yard mark where the defender can make physical contact.
AJ needs to strike with his inside arm, and then leave the other arm exposed to make a play if the ball is thrown his way
If he does not get the inside arm free from the defender, the Defender will be flagged and the chains will move in the offenses favor; but if the Tight End keeps his hands inside, theres no room to make a play and the Refs will call it incomplete as the TE did not attempt to catch the ball.
