How to address RESOURCE GUARDING 👇

Resource Guarding is a behavior where a dog becomes defensive or aggressive to protect valuable items like food, toys, or spaces. Three things that can result because of resource guarding:

1️⃣ Injury or Aggression: Resource guarding can lead to bites or fights, posing safety risks to people and other animals.
2️⃣ Strained Relationships: Guarding behavior can create tension between the dog and its family or other pets, reducing trust and harmony.
3️⃣ Increased Stress for the Dog: Persistent guarding behavior may cause the dog to experience heightened anxiety and fear around their valued items.

HOW TO PREVENT RESOURCE GUARDING:

1️⃣ Maintain a healthy lifestyle with your dog. Things like walking your dog enough, keeping them well fed, and playing with them will help✅
2️⃣ Make sure resource guarding is not happening indirectly. In multi-dog households, it is easy for one dog to become aggressive to their sibling when it's time to eat✅
3️⃣ Make your presence better! In this case, when your dog is eating, do NOT ever hold the bowl for them. You actually want to let your dog eat by itself if you notice any resource guarding type behavior going on✅
