UPDATE : FDA Warns Amazon for Sale of Unapproved Eye Drops

#eyedrops #doctoreyehealth

In a recent development, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a recall of eyedrops that were being sold on Amazon, citing concerns about their safety and efficacy. The FDA, in a formal letter, declared that the eye drops, which have not been deemed "generally accepted as safe and effective," were being distributed and sold on Amazon without the necessary prior approval from the agency. This action by Amazon, in violation of the federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act and United States Code, prompted the FDA to take corrective measures. The recall underscores the importance of adhering to regulatory processes and ensuring that products meet established safety standards before being made available to consumers.

The FDA claimed, “These products are especially concerning from a public health perspective". “Ophthalmic drug products, which are intended for administration into the eyes, in general pose a greater risk of harm to users because the route of administration for these products bypasses some of the body’s natural defenses.”

The FDA recalled Similasan because, they say, of the possibility that if used over time the silver preservative in the product could cause bluing of the eyes (argyria).
Similasan pink eye relief is incredibly effective and only used when people have pink eye, which Similasan clears up quickly.
How often does someone get pink eye?
I may have had it no more than three times in my whole life and have always relied upon homeopathic Similasan to cure it.
It takes quite a lot of silver used over a much longer time than anyone needs to use a product to cure pink eye to turn a person's eyes blue.
This product should not have been included in the recall.

While submitting warnings to sellers is fine, it probably gets them pulled from shelves (hopefully) but in reality the US FDA needs to go directly to the manufacturers to make them stop making the stuff in the first place.

Should you even trust the FDA?

Yeah, Similasan was in that group cuz they’re homeopathic…so, according to the FDA (Food and Drug Administration), they “haven’t been proven to work” because they’re NOT a food or a drug. And won’t bow down and give them money behind the scenes. Why do they have jurisdiction over things that don’t fall under their realm anyway?

I don't know about floaters. I live in NL EU and the 1st eyedrop Similasan for red eyes is the only one that calms my eyes whenever they have a breakout of irritation or itchyness. I have advanced KC, contact lens intolerance and DED due to MGD. I even use it with my kids since babies and keep repurchasing. I don't know if it is the same composition, could be worthwhile to check. I think they are different.

If its from china like most Amazon products, dont buy. My eye dr in Canada said to use Systane Ultra for my severe dry eyes due to lupus as i cant afford prescription drops. Also some supposed brand names on Amazon are fake knockoffs. Or discontinued for a reason. Unsafe. Later found to cause serious issues, or carcinogenic, etc. Use what a professional says or prescribes that is safely sold on your own pharmacy shelves. In 1989 i went partially blind for months from eyedrops & 2 eye drs said it was permanent. I recovered. They were Visine.

Trust the US FDA? I used to. No more! I've seen what the FDA calls "safe and effective".

QUESTION - do ALL of these brands that you showed photos of, have dangerous bacteria? Or is it just that they don’t work??? Are they being recalled for making people blind, like those others that were recalled??? Or is the issue with these, just that there is no proof that they work?

Optimel Manuka honey eye drops are the only drops that do anything. Or you can put honey directly on your eyes.
