As a PA student whoās looking to go into surgery; patients come in with all sorts of complaints and make you overthink the encounter. I was given great advice and thatās asking āwhat is bothering you the most?ā Believe it or not, that has allowed me to get better at consulting and understanding the patient at a faster rate

I had a brain tumor removed 18 months ago, and Iāve struggled with significant deficits and pain since my surgery. In a recent visit with my neurosurgeon, I went in well-prepared with notes explaining what my symptoms have been, the deficits Iāve experienced and the various treatments Iāve tried. He then proceeded to tell me āthe extent of my symptoms overwhelm him and he canāt even begin to figure out where to start.ā I left his office completely defeated and hopeless! Iām apparently just Too much for him to deal with and I couldnāt possibly have these deficits from the surgery I had. The hardest part for me is that heās been my surgeon for 18 years, and 14 brain surgeries, and now he quits on me. I shouldāve left the tumor. š¢

I was a physical therapist and those were my questions too when I did an evaluation. I also asked if any of the former treatments were helpful at all in relieving the pain. And was the pain relieved or increased by sitting, standing, walking, or lying down or was it constant. I enjoy hearing from you!
