I was a physical therapist and those were my questions too when I did an evaluation. I also asked if any of the former treatments were helpful at all in relieving the pain. And was the pain relieved or increased by sitting, standing, walking, or lying down or was it constant. I enjoy hearing from you!

As a PA student whoā€™s looking to go into surgery; patients come in with all sorts of complaints and make you overthink the encounter. I was given great advice and thatā€™s asking ā€œwhat is bothering you the most?ā€ Believe it or not, that has allowed me to get better at consulting and understanding the patient at a faster rate

A check list is good. When I see my neuro I always write up my list beforehand to be more efficient.

I had a brain tumor removed 18 months ago, and Iā€™ve struggled with significant deficits and pain since my surgery. In a recent visit with my neurosurgeon, I went in well-prepared with notes explaining what my symptoms have been, the deficits Iā€™ve experienced and the various treatments Iā€™ve tried. He then proceeded to tell me ā€œthe extent of my symptoms overwhelm him and he canā€™t even begin to figure out where to start.ā€ I left his office completely defeated and hopeless! Iā€™m apparently just Too much for him to deal with and I couldnā€™t possibly have these deficits from the surgery I had. The hardest part for me is that heā€™s been my surgeon for 18 years, and 14 brain surgeries, and now he quits on me. I shouldā€™ve left the tumor. šŸ˜¢

Those are great questions to ask your patients . I make sure to understand the questions being asked and I make sure my doctor understands what I am explaining ( like when did the symptoms start , etc)

Spot on Doctor! Those are the same exact questions my orthopedic surgeon asked me when I met him the 1st time before he ended up doing my total hip replacement.
