I can approve that, In my culture elders forbid us (usually kids/teenager) to look at the mirror for too long, and when we ask why, elders always simply said just don't. (Javanese - Indonesia)

Lmao it does happen irl cuz i had experience of it, it was around 2am then i went to the kitchen, we had a big ass mirror that you'll pass by before you reach the kitchen, the lights were off and i was curious about what will happen if i stare at myself in the mirror, i thought there's nothing cuz it's been about a minute then i slowly saw my face falling off💀
