The video explains how to differentiate these berries from honeysuckle berries (Lonicera) which are toxic and ripe at the same time and in the same environment!

You’ll never miss the season for wild spicebush and dozens of other wild herbs and spices with my Interactive Forager’s Calendar. 📅 (link in my bio

The fruits, seeds, and leaves all provide different benefits. I’m fortunate to have some growing wild on my property.

Whaaaat!!!! I never knew those were edible 😮👍👍
I always told my kids that those and “poke berries” were called
“puke berries “ so they wouldn’t try to eat th

Currently freaking out with my Lindera benzoin sitting out front RIGHT now, just waiting to be planted. I didnt realize they were edible! That's awesome! So glad I bought one when they came in at the native nursery I work at. I bought it for the spicebush swallowtails hosting on the invasive Camphor tree I have growing out front. Want to get rid of it one day, but for now, I plant natives!

Should come to Wisconsin and show all the plants around there. I know there isn’t much as tropical places but I would love to know

Ah man. When I was a kid we had so many of these in the woods. We called them “lemon mint” trees because of the bark smell. We would crush up the leaves and smell them every time we went out there. Good times.

I’ve always LOVED the smell of spice bush but never the berries were actual edible spice! That’s so cool thank you!

It is also a huge host plant for butterflies and moths, like the spicebush swallowtail! Turns out, the caterpillar looks just like a caterpie from Pokemon!

nice, thanks! I hadn’t really considered eating the fruits but the leaves and twigs furnish such a flavorful tea that I am looking forward to trying them next time I see them!

Don't quote me on this, but you should be able to dry the berries and grind them into a powder, which can be substituted for Allspice. Also had it once in coffee, it was so good.

I love your videos. Can you please start adding location tags or mention the range of these edibles?

I like your series, but you could do more..a map of each plant's range and preferred habitat would be great.

As an American I feel like we were robbed of all these plants and flavors. I keep finding out about native things that could replace expensive imports.

I also love this bush. The green fruit is more citrusy.

Interesting! Kind of reminds me of the native bird pepper plant we have down here in FL.
