I believe that is expensive and inefficient but I do think if the budget is there and production numbers are big it makes sense. I wish changes and testing were faster and more robust. Along with A/B testing. Generative AI still isn't there. Direct digital manufacturing automated G Code or a digital twin hysics engine Real Engine 5 Blender rendering with 99% accurate FEA, CFD is getting there but going from Siemens to Fusion Solidworks putting it on a Oculus Headset going from drawing to CAD to Render to Model is super manual and different programs. It's close but getting everything to work together is not smooth or straight forward or all that accurate. The real game changer is going to be when changes in a digital twin are not only accurate but easy and more unified.
