It did look like to me when they looked under the roots from the sidewalk that quite possibly that tree was already rotted hollow? Had to look a few times

What roots. That is one unhealthy tree. The wind probably did not help but that tree needed more firm planting.

that's why trees need ROOM to thrive & grow properly (not planted in sidewalk mediums around cement in small area like that - it's not going to work well - and this can happen - tree becomes too too heavy ! hallo !!! it's common sense and in new york city & surrounding areas especially this is common with big trees planted in small areas that are way too big & over grown now - i lived there 3 yrs and saw that constantly ! then they wonder why trees fall on houses & roots destroy side walks! they don't take care of the old trees in central park either & they break and fall on people too ππ€·ββοΈ no common sense and no one gets it
