At this point he was playing her but now, once s5 finished, it feels like he somewhat wants to help her cause. He's actually started wanting to do good since Grace died and he's got his family into a position where they can live comfortably so now he'll probably let his true feelings(pre war Tommy) come back slowly

Breakdown:
1) He makes her feel that he is on the same side with her by saying " MY natural side of barricades is the same as you ".
2) then he goes on and says " I once believed " which finishes her doubt by bringing a light of hope and trust to some extent.
3) When she is comfortable and starting to trust him she brings her emotional/real face by mentioning her love/weakness that her man could not speak when he came
back from war. And there she is widely open to be attacked/occupied.
Then Thomas says " I have said very few words since then " And there he goes. Now she is 90 per cent occupied by Thomas because he made her feel that as his made was not able to speak, he also speaks very less which is very intriguing to her. She now believes in Thomas, trusts him and feels "Safe" with him which is a hidden feeling...
