It's very funny to me that German husband is insistent that only one single pastry can be 10/10 in all of Germany and since you found one it's time to pack up haha

It's funny, I'm always kind of "jealous" when you try all this interesting chinese food, that I can't try for myself.
And now you're wandering around Germany trying all kind of pastries that I can try for myself, but never thought it would be special..... 😀

As someone who also discovered lactate pills fairly recently, in 2024 when my doc took pity on me and told me they existed, I can tell you this.
On the box, it should tell you what the pill is meant to help you digest. In my case, my box tells me one pill is enough to digest the equivalent of 1 250ml glass of normal milk.
Most pastries here, I am speaking as someone who lives in Belgium, mainly contain butter which is fairly poor in lactose but of course, do some research to make sure it's the same in Germany.
All that to say that one pill should be enough to digest a fair bit more than one pastry if you don't space them out too much.

it is the most German thing ever to say you can't give anything else a 10 and that the series is over lol

Quark isn’t yogurt. It can have a yogurt consistency, but it is actually a type of farmer’s cheese.

My personal favorite pastry here in Germany has got to be the Puddingbreze (I've also seen it called Puddingbrille).

I think Stollen and Lebkuchen (from a good bakery) are just a notch above, but those are Christmas time treats. Strudel is also sensational, but that's not strictly German, but from what used to be Habsburg-ruled territories.

There's a shop in Hamburg called Franz & Friends that actually does a variety of Franzbrotchen, with nutella and caramel and fruits and it's the best.

I love that your husband is very uncomfortable with your rating rubric. He thinks you should cap it at "Well, it's edible." 🤣🤣❤️

Hahaha, I can't believe you bought Franzbrötchen from SIPL - they are a southern German bakery chain with really good quality products. Welcome to Bavaria, I hope you enjoy your trip ❤ Love their "100% Dinkelkruste", a lovely fluffly spelt bread. But as Franzbrötchen is a speciality from northern Germany, the ones that SIPL sells are sadly just mid and nothing more. And that says something, because their sweet pastries are usually very good and most of it isn't overly sweet (try their croissants with different sweet fillings - there is one which tastes exactly like Kinder Bueno).

Hear me out: You HAVE to try Franzbrötchen in Hamburg, the birthplace of this pastry - no excuses. They are otherwordly there. A fellow northern German friend of mine recommended "Franz & Friends" in Hamburg (there is a branch inside the train station) for the first taste - can't argue with that 😊
