Privacy and services do not go together. Period.
We have grown used to running everything over centralised services owned by companies, rather than open protocols implemented by competing device vendors.
If your chat, email, videoconferencing, storage, etc is owned by a brand company, you risk that company going belly up or turning your data to a third party without your consent, either willingly to comply with authorities legislation (being it reasonable or not) or unwillingly to hackers of that company data honeypot.
Then only real privacy preserving solution is running your services yourself on hardware you own. Meaning hardware that is open and running open source code, otherwise you might only own an expensive & shiny bit of spyware working for the vendor, not you.
