Many people don't know this, but the founder of Mormonism, Joseph Smith, wrote a second book, after the Book of Mormon, called the Book of Abraham, which is still part of Mormon scripture under the name Pearl of Great Price. Joseph Smith claimed to have translated what we now know was a common Egyptian Funeral text, and claimed it was a lost book of scriptures written by the Jewish Patriarch, Abraham himself. Problem for Joseph Smith, this was after the Rosetta Stone had already been translated, but before news of the discovery and of the translation became widely known in the US. This actually led to a major problem for Smith, years later, when it was discovered by members of his church, that his translation did not match up with what the scrolls actually said, not even closely, and was one of the factors that led to many Mormons deciding that Joseph Smith was a false prophet, many of whom who were involved in events that led to Smiths eventual death at the hands of a lynch mob after his polygamy was discovered. Mormons today try to cover this up in their own history, and it continues to be a major reason why Mormons, including myself, leave the faith.
