Well that sounds logical. Lawmakers don't understand law either

In Wisconsin, American Bar Association-accredited law schools have what's called "Diploma Privilege." This means that if you graduate with a JD from one of these universities in Wisconsin, you may be granted membership to the Wisconsin Bar without ever taking a Bar exam. This actually helps the state as a whole because, since one of those American Bar Association-accredited schools happens to be in the University of Wisconsin system, Wisconsin subsidizes the education of those attorneys but since they are admitted to the Wisconsin bar and many states do not allow reciprocal admission for attorneys who's admission was granted through diploma privilege, most of these attorneys stay in Wisconsin, working and paying taxes that help fund the further education of more of Wisconsin's youth, which further improves Wisconsin's educational standards and economic health.

It says right on the screen that they're doing it because it's "at best minimally effective at ensuring competency."

What are the requirements for the Bar Exam? Is it expensive? Simply allowing people who can't afford it to take the Bar for free would solve that issue.

Student going into law here! This is an irrefutably good thing. The Bar was originally created to prevent formerly enslaved people and their descendants from practicing law. Currently most states are facing shortages of public defenders meaning poor people’s rights to representation and a speedy trial are infringed upon. Removing pointless roadblocks makes the profession more accessible which is good for the function of our justice system. Also this probably won’t hurt you in any way as middle and upper class people will just continue paying for the best lawyers.
