Wowie! I actually didn't know the Scottish Resistance, or the Kritzkrieg were the same as the their stock counterparts but modified to be a new weapon entirely!

They do that so that they can just reuse the reload animation on the weapons. Only certain weapons have different reload animations, like the ray guns

The SodaPopper doesn't actually use the FAN design tho. If you look closely, one handle is bigger, the safety is in a different place and the barrels have different pattern.

If you look at first set of weapons of TF2 they mostly use the same basis: bludsaguer, kritzkrieg, ubersaw, backburner, axtinglisher, scottish resistance, Natasha, frontier justice, all use the same basis of the stock weapons. Also, overdose, because it's an earlier version of syringe gun. Every other weapon has similarities, but overall is a different models and there is no clear trace of them being made out of stock

I like how on most of these the weapon is usually more chipped and battle scarred than their original counterparts, makes it feel like the mercs just desperately tried to improve their shitty ass guns in any way possible

i guess it makes sense that most of the weapons are handmade and tinkered weapons since (most of) the mercs aren't actually trained and have very little access to a wide range of weapons. the only exceptions are heavy and the engineer since heavy's minigun is a custom-built gun, and the engineer is a direct worker for the two Mann Brothers.
