I had a detached Retina around 20 years ago. Very scary, I only saw that black curtain when I was looking straight ahead, while I was working I was always looking down into my computer. On the 2nd day I called my eye doctor who told me to get into his office ASAP. When I arrived he had me almost laying upside down and called a Retina eye surgeon to do surgery on me. He told me if I had waited another day I would have gone blind in that eye. Surgery was a success, a little painful going thru the gas bubble she inserted. I now go once a year to my Retina Dr for a yearly checkup.🙏

Retinal detachment is one of my greatest fears. Before I take any big trip, I get so anxious that I become hyper aware of my floaters. I have severe myopia and know I am at increased risk.

I wish I had seen this video before May of this year. I had noticed that the floaters in my right eye had increased in both size and number. Because my eye doctor was not concerned with the floaters I had complained about previously, I didn’t think there was anything to worry about. About 2 or 3 weeks after the changes in the floaters started I was walking into an appointment and suddenly I got a very strange problem in that right eye. It was like a black hand with very long fingers was moving across my eye starting on the outside and moving inward. I could barely see anything with my right eye. Once I finished with the appointment I went to urgent care to see a doctor. I had a torn retina. I was sent to the emergency eye clinic the next day and an eye surgeon performed laser surgery to repair the tear. It was scary to go through but it’s very important to deal with it at the time. If I had left it and not seen a doctor my retina could have completely detached and then I might have lost my sight in that eye. My rule of thumb is, when it comes to my sight, any kind of big changes, see the doctor or eye specialist ASAP.

I am 51 year old female. I was crying one day and rubbed and wiped my left eye a number of times. I immediately felt my vision in my left eye go blurry. I noticed sudden very large ameoba type floaters appear in that eye. An immediate trip to the optometrist revealed Normal eye pressure levels and no change in eye prescription. I do have a follow up opthomologist appoint. next week. Its been one month since the incident happened. I get headaches and dizziness because these large floaters are causing bad blurriness in my left eye. I am worried this is now a permanent eye problem.
I never had any eye problems previously. No flashes of light or dark curtain coming down

I had a significant increase in floaters years ago, accompanied by these pin point flashes of light. Thankfully it’s nbd, but scared me pretty bad 😳

Castor oil seems to help me. Plus it helps eyebrow & lash growth

I swear to god if I look at a bright background I can see my cells moving around in there. Not hair but like I'm looking through a microscop

Cool video, very well explained, especially the red flags for retinal detachment.

Having recently been a subject of a detached retina, from assault, another symptom to watch for is very small bubbles of gas cascading - if left, the cascade will get heavier, and the damage increased.
As for other 'floaters' after the reattachment, came a cataract, which was lasted off. Since then I've had floaters - they've reduced in number & size over time.
When out walking, a new depth of field focus has come into play , and the eye which was damaged, feels as if it tires easily, and wants to sleep - daily, after 3 + years.
Other wise, all's good - couldn't have asked for a better job = no spectacles required .

I have a macula hole in my eye yet not having any symptoms. My doctor doesn’t want to rush into surgery because I’m legally blind and the surgery is high risk. He said to call him right away if I have any symptoms like you mentioned.

During the last 9 months after LASIK eye surgery, I have been seeing a flash of light when moving my eye to the side quickly. Is there anything serious about this symptom?

I got some big floaters which annoy me to the point of not being able to study on computer sometimes.

They did make me concerned about my health, but you luckily I don't have those other symptoms and I found this vid, so I can be more at ease and know when to seek urgent care.
Thank you!

I got the white flashes of bright light a year & a half ago. Went to opthalmology dept at Univ of Iowa, and they said my eyeball was separating from the retina, and it was a common old age thing and nothing to worry about. I'm still glad I had it checked out, though.
