He did some good stuff too, that 2023 team. He put them in every position to win. He overfilled that team with talent. It wasnāt just him, the core four choked against Florida.

Shanahan is obviously to blame for the Leafs lost decade, Dybas made many mistakes in TO and one of the biggest mistakes was giving players NO TRADE CLAUSES. WHICH IS INSANE! He also let Hyman go to Edmonton š¢. Dybas wasnāt experienced to lead a team, this isnāt the OH

I'm glad he is mature enough to admit to it. He isn't alone in the blame. More Shanahan than any one else.
The Leafs seem to be turning things around.
Let's face it the Stanley Cup is nowhere close to being ours but at least the team will be more respectable and fun to root for.

Younger people are usually smarter imo. Less experienced tho, and you can't teach younger people what experience translates to. It's got less to do with knowledge, more with questioning yourself. The younger you are, the more power you have, the more confident you are, the less you question yourself and your own ideas. Which is good because otherwise young people wouldn't chase the impossible thing, then the world wouldn't evolve. I don't think it was necessarily a bad decision to try a young GM. "We can and we will", the loading up on offense, overpaying a talented core, that was an optimistic vision. How many older GMs make horrible mistakes every season? Also it could've worked for the Leafs. In hindsight it's easy to pretend like it was an obvious mistake stating: "what were we thinking?". But that's very arrogant imo. Just accept that there's tons of luck and bad luck involved in this business.

Holl, Marincin, Malgin, and bringing in stars who never won anything as mentors, in Thorton and Marleau. The draft picks were all busts.
