Oh man, I've seen this exact same thing happen. Except, that 90 days kept getting extended as they "look for the right person" for over two years, before the "acting manager" quit. They offered the "acting manager" to other members of our team, and no one accepted. We went without direct supervision for two more years, before being merged with another team. XD. It's amazing how spot on these skits are. Clearly this person has lived it all for real.

I had similar at work, they wanted to put me in a higher paying position. I asked what the pay raise would be. Oh no, there is no pay raise, maybe after a couple of years. I asked him if he got a raise when he got promoted. The silence said it all, I said no.
