My friend got a german shepherd puppy with her boyfriend at the time because he really wanted one but when they split she was the only one who could afford a place with enough space for a german shepherd on her own so she got the dog as well as her three cats in the 'divorce'. Way too may animals for a single person, specially with a young german shepherd who needs strict training in the mix but she was definitely the better person to look after them.

After a break up my best friends ex-gf agreed to look after the his dog and 3 weeks later had it put down. It was old but healthy dog just needed a small op for cherry eye that she wasn't willing to pay for. Teddy was his elderly neighbours dog and for years he would walk it for her . when she passed none of the family wanted it so he happily agreed to. He loved that little guy. It was only a temp thing that his ex had the dog after they broke up, untill he found a place (he was in nurse shared accommodation). When he went to get his dog a few weeks later she had put it down. Hes still pissed off 3 years later 😢 rip Tedd

Had something similar, my gf at the time wanted a cat so we went to the shelter. I gave her the 5 bucks to adopt, and the cat warmed up to me first. The cat imprinted on both of us, but I fed her every meal and was more active around the house so she'd follow me more often. When we broke up, it was clear the cat was my ex's (since it was her idea to adopt), and the poor cat had a couple days after looking for me throughout the house, waiting for me to come back :'(

I have a family member who got a man’s Dogs (that he owned before marriage) in the divorce.
She proved she took care of them by showing Receipts that she was buying their food. ⚫️👄⚫

I ended up with my exes cat that was born in their living room before I met them, don't really understand why... Their new person claimed to be allergic but then they had 5 within a year of being together. Still have this cat, he poops on my floor sometimes and doesn't even remind me of a good person 😮

Me getting to keep the dog in the breakup honestly felt like a power move bc I had him for ONE WEEK before I met my ex so we did raise him together, I just had him for one week longer

When they broke up, my brother kept his ex’s rabbit that she brought to the apartment and her cat that she brought home without asking us. Eventually she took the rabbit back because he needed to re-home her and she saw the Facebook post. He still has the cat.
