I trained my whippet pretty intensely when she was pup it took 2 years. Their whippet brain doesn't really come in for a year.... Then all of a sudden there is was , it all came in at once. The penny dropped. Fantastic breed. They are a patience and kindness breed. My one isn't food driven so rewards are kisses to come for the lead and booty scratches to retrieve the ball or frisbee 😊
She is the only one on whippet club walks that is off lead, it can be done x when she points, a quick glance to me for yes or a stand down.... Its so hard for her to do but she will

My golden retriever whippet mix is actually afraid of his own bark so he rarely barks and if he does he hides immediately.

Sight hounds are a lot quieter than scent hounds. I had a beagle mix, that while he was a great dog, would bark and howl all through the night.

Whining/crying/needy barking is also what irks me the most in some dogs.
There's one dog I'll dog sit with every now and then, and literally ANYTHING you do will cause her to start whining. Getting ready for a walk, showing affection, playing, making food, sometimes simply lying on the couch doing absolutely nothing. In her case, and because she is not my dog, I've learned to just ignore and bear it for the few days I'll spend with her.

I usually rescued for greyhounds over 25 years and you are correct they are a quiet dog a loving dog I just wish their poop wasn't so big now we have very happy Chihuahua mixes we had to downsize
