Just a little care for my clothing with me, as today I wash my sweaters! And I’m just using Johnson’s baby shampoo as the washing liquid! I’m leaving instructions below, but I am not a laundry professional so please double check your process! SORRY I HAD TO REPOST THIS!!

Sweater Care Instructions:
Place your sweaters in COLD water, and add your washing liquid, I use Johnson and Johnson baby shampoo because my sweaters are made from animal fibers, so they need to be treated with the same products I would wash my hair with! And I have used olaplex in the past! Then GENTLY nudge them around to make sure they’re sufficiently covering in solution. You can leave them for minimum 10-30 minutes but I have left mine for longer without seeing any real differences. Once you complete the washing process, then rinse them off, and begin to GENTLY squeeze out the excess moisture! Really be gentle, even though it’s annoying and more time consuming, as like our hair, when fibers are wet they are more susceptible to damage. Then you can place them in towels, and roll them up to help sop up even more moisture, then lay them flat out in their original shape, and DO NOT HANG THEM! That’s how you turn a sweater into a sweater dress! The drying time can last even to a day or more, and if at any point it smells a bit funky, I have found by the time it fully dries the scent has gone away! So happy washing and drying, and again DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH!!

I get you because this is exactly the bored grumpy attitude I have when I’m doing chores, you didn’t even try to fake otherwise. Relatable queen.

Pro tips from a costume designer - 1. Mix the soap with the water before adding the sweaters (so you don't have soap build up in random spots)
2. Try using a salad spinner or using multiple towels instead of hand wringing as even that can change the shape of the knit
3. For anyone is unsure, make sure the colours are tested to see if they will run first - the cream in that one sweater could have easily become a lovely mauve

I recommend the Laundress Cashmere and Wool Shampoo. It's cedar scented, so it does double duty as a moth repellent as well.

Use Mane 'n Tail shampoo. J&Js baby shampoo is ph balanced to be non irritating to the eyes; it's not the best for animal hair.
Also, wash right after sweater season so stains don't have a chance to degrade the fibers.

I love this! And would love to see you do more "take care of my clothes with me," especially since this avoids expensive dry cleaning bills.

Martha Stewart taught me this 20 years ago. She'd be so proud of you.

As a crocheter... why is this better than any tutorial on any crafting channel? It's not blocking but it's dang close

THANK YOU! I learned the hard way to hand wash my wools and linens after having dresses/trousers shrunk by dry cleaners.

Add the soap to the water before adding the sweaters, also Woolite or another soap like The Laundress is much better. Oh and wash them at the end of the season and store with a cedar sachet in a sealed bag for best results. But kudos to you for actually doing this and filming it!

Great thinking with the baby shampoo, but if you can swing it, a specific detergent for wool like Eucalan is even better, and even easier to use because it has a no rinse formula!

I love that you are caring for your sweaters. Maybe next yr you could do this in spring before your store your sweaters which helps protect them from insects and they will be already fresh and ready to go for autumn/winter.

THANKS Luke! ❤ seeing you "in real life" not in front of your fabulous book collection! For everyone here let's appreciate that Luke is sharing how he washes his sweaters...he didn't say this was the OFFICIAL way, he said this is his way! The offers for alternative shampoo options are great but if the man wants to wash his red sweater with his blue and white pattern sweater, not only is that his right, that is what most men would do! I want more of Luke in real life!

Try putting the shampoo in the water before the sweaters, that way its evenly distributed! And dont forget to rinse with only water afterwards!

Wooo old fashionista and designer maker here....wool needs lokewarm (very slightly warm) water usually as cold like hot can shock the fibres causing shrinkage. Then a liquid woolwash put into water before the garment. Then rinsed in warm water and pat dry in a towel to remove any excess water, then dry flat so as to avoid any dragging on the garment as it dries.....anyway Luke glad you are stretching yourself 💗🫶
