Balatro plays around with the idea of decks of cards and Jokers, but Dungeons and Degenerate Gamblers plays with the idea of a card itself if that makes sense

Balatro is like a perfect microcosm of what makes the Indie game scene so good, just different teams and devs showing their love for eachother and enriching the entire category in turn.
One of my favourite roguelikes, Dead Cells, is filled with fun references and weapons from other Indie games.

"Rising tides lift all boats" mentality is the best attitude. Rather than making enemies, you win by working together. Players discover extra games, developers build collab and marketing potential, everyone wins.
On the opposite side, you have the crab mentality of publishers trying to patent game mechanics to drag the entire industry down. Burning their reputation and churning future customers.

if it is copying a certain game, it will come out in at least a year or two (probably more) after the 'original' unless it is pure slop.

People underestimate how long it takes to make a proper game. There's no way the devs would have seen the attention Balatro got and made a pretty good quality "clone" game in such little time.
