I’ve always had this idea of standardized “smell packs” which have the basic smell compounds and game devs can add the “smell” to entities like they add sound as attributes. This would make the dream of smelling your game to a NEXT level of realism

This is a good start, but for it to work better, it would need some basic fragrances like the basic colours and then combine them to create a unique smell (like hex codes). Also it would need collaboration with the developers of content to appropriately identify smell and generate fragrance id, and the same be used by user device to produce it there.
