Hello from a Brit in France to another 😊
Unfortunately I don't own bees, but I like to think my garden is a good bee pitstop 🌻

I pollinate chestnuts in the Southeast U.S. mostly of the Dunstan hybrid variety. I’ve always said they smell like chlorine/laundry detergent when there in bloom and I usually make a decent honey crop off of it.

Sadly this year they didn’t perform nearly as good as the usually do, and I noticed the smell was different. Not sure what the issue was this year but wish you the best!!

Chestnut honey is something else. Ive found it to be really dark and strong. Useless for cooking, it overpowers all the other flavours.

The Chestnuts are just blooming in New Jersey as well. Definitely a noticeably strong odor. Do you consider it a significant nectar source? I see the bees combing it for pollen.
