In my many, many years of doing this in microwaves and seeing other people do it I don't think I've ever actually seen an oven destroyed by it. Really the only way to ruin your microwave by doing this is to allow the plasmoid ball to float around inside the oven uncontained. If you do that it will eventually burn the ceiling or melt the plastic door window.
