A Mexican woman named Ines Ramirez Perez successfully performed a C-section on herself after 12 hours of continual pain. Despite having no medical training, she used a kitchen knife and three glasses of hard liquor, while her husband was at a bar. She reached inside her uterus, pulled out her baby boy, severed the umbilical cord with a pair of scissors and became unconscious. She was eventually taken to a clinic and she and her baby boy, both survived.

Somehow I have to think that this has happened many many many times in human history

So many women in so many cultures had to go away from everyone to give birth and have to chew through the umbilical to sever it and that was just the norm I'm sure there were many many horrendous things that women had to do to give birth and probably succumb in a vast amount of them
