One issue i see arizing is that "plus minus" is an operation. If you didn't know, it's what we use when there are 2 or more possible answers to a certian problem, often resulting from a square root. The most common example of it's use is in the Quadratic Formula.

"Minus" is the operation.
"Negative or positive" is the position relative to zero on a number line.
So it's "5 minus 3=2" or "5 minus negative 3=8"
