I will never understand the hate for mods especially in coop/single-player games, I’ve been legitimately insulted and threatened in reddits and forums when mentioning mods, now it’s rare like 10% Of all instances when talking about mods, so it’s not that bad but is def weird.

Interesting take
I personally have developed a dislike for how homebrew for TTPRGs gets presented online. The vast majority of the time, I see it as post about "I fixed this broken game!" Then the actual post invovles new rules which add compexity and have been through no playtesting. Sometimes the changes are an improvement, but it's much more of a risk than it needs to be, and it's always disrespectful of the actual game developers who went through the due diligence. If I ran a TTRPG subreddit, I would have rule stating that homebrew mustbbe playtested before uploading.

The problem with mods is I haven't been playing for 10 years, I'm not bored of the core mechanics, and I want to play the game completely vanilla, but no-one I can play with wants to play without mods, so I just don't get to play. The game is effectively dead, because the vanilla playerbase is 0. They're all off playing unofficial sequels.
