Politics runs through everything. You can't escape it. You can not say that you "avoid politics and focus on empathy and the good life" because there are forces who don't want people to have that. Abandoning the political arena means that those preaching that "work equals value" narrative will gain political power and make that the guiding ethos.
So embrace your empathy. Embrace saying you want everyone to have a good life. Force the opposition to defend cruelty and selfishness.

Really comes down to what we value. If you have power and wealth, you will value that which gives you more. If you have no power and wealth you will value what gives you power and wealth. If you have no knowledge, you will value that which gives you knowledge. So on and so forth. This is why we never have the same values of anything unless we are living the same way or under the same conditions.

I went to a Con in Austin a few years ago, and Troy Baker was the speaker. He started his talk by looking out at us and just said "You are enough." ... And let that sit for a minute. I believed that about other people, but I'd never tried to believe it about myself. It was the start of valuing myself, and life has gotten much better since I started that process.

Like attaching the value of a person to work, thinking deeply about it, how is it that we have that we have fully liberated humanity from slavery when society is force to devalue who can't work or at least subjecting everyone into backbreaking labor as if that's the only way to value people. Work that is own specifically by you at your own disposal and time.
This is why I turn to marxism, it's about liberating work for the individual, we're work is valued in a society, free from the constraints of material scarcity or ownership of others.

We value art but not the artist. Some people love working for a company. Some people want to work for themselves. We shouldn't have a problem with letting everyone do what they want. We have all of the tools we need to make that happen but we have to end unlimited individual wealth. If you have 100 mil+ and it's not enough, it never will be. And you probably need to get some therapy.
