A few years back I liked this girl, we dated for a bit until she came out to me as a lesbian and said she wasn't comfortable with dating me cause I'm a dude. I really liked this song as I could relate to the lyrics. I later found out she was not a lesbian and actually was having a crush on this dude who was basically a stereotype of the jock in a movie. I then found out about the truth about the song and I don't know if that makes everything funnier or even more sad. Either way, totally fits with pinkerton

The pure irony in Rivers spilling that he's had curious thoughts in the song with the line "might've smoked a few in my time/but never thought it was a crime" is amazing given the outcome haha.
It also goes to show the complexity of the record. Basically have something SEEM very abrasive and borderline insulting, but examining it only to find a soft underbelly full of insecurity and projection.

I’m honestly impressed that the pink triangle was even recognized, I don’t see as many people using or talking about that symbol in regards to the LGBTQ+ community. That’s sweet that the girl had that pin to show support and even funnier that he assumed she was a lesbian.
